Is there a simple way to remove enchant blinking on 1.7.1.0?

I really don't like how enchants make every item blinking purple. Can I somehow completely hide this?

Apparently if you edit the /assets/minecraft/textures/misc/enchanted_item_glint.png to be all black it'll remove the effect.
