I'm trying to put together a group of textures for the addons I'm using intended for use in a new "Let's Play" series. Unfortunately its hard enough on my system trying to record and load up all these 64x textures... so I'm going to try 32x. Unfortunately nearly all the texture patches are all in 64x and up, so I gotta do this myself it seems.
I do have a high end photo editing software, and I was considering opening up each and every png file and trying to resize them. But before I tackle this time-consuming job, what would you suggest I do?
Can I just reduce the image by 50% and re-save the png?

I'm seeing lots of views but no replies so I'm assuming people are coming to see if I had a tip regarding the issue instead of an actual question regarding the best way to go about doing it.
I guess I can say what I've done and maybe someone can come around and tell me there is a better way. So today I unpacked my 64x sphax pack, with all the included installed addon "patches" provided by the community here. I opened up photoshop and recorded a batch "action" consisting of going through a folder (and subfolders), opening up all the images, resizing the image by 50% and saving the file to the web in a new folder for my 32x images.
Running the batch took a while resizing every picture in the 64x pack, and I found out it didn't restore file structure, so now I'm having to go back and recreate folders and re-zip later. Of course some images were saved over in the process and i'm keeping a record of which ones those were so I can go back and do those myself manually. If all goes well I should be able to zip the 32x folder, and use that for my textures.
I'm still uncertain of the quality of the images, I haven't been able to load them up in-game yet. It would be nice to get some word on how this might turn up from someone that has tried a similar method before. Maybe before I'm done restructuring the 100's of png files in this pack.
Thanks.
If you resized using bicubic you should be okay. There's a small chance you may have bleed (bits of textures merging at the edges). It's not really what PhotoShop is for and I'm not sure why people obsess over it
I do it via another program with a batch method, but it also doesn't do folder structure.
So you'll just have to stick at it, but I'd recommend do it it bit by bit if you need to redo them so you can check as you go.
Out of interest which mods are you resizing?
(Yes i know wrong thread please answer on the Tips and tricks thread i just didnt know if you would look there)
Hanfox ive been meaning to ask how did you make the leaf textures for extrabiomes
i still havent worked out how to make seamless textures for blocks i asked Sphax and havent really seen a good answer
Thanks if you can help me

This would have been the perfect time to have actually posted in the mod thread
I did them by making them "too big". So I marked out my 128x128 area and just placed the leaves how I wanted them not overly caring that they fell out the edges just making sure that only a few got over the edge to avoid clutter. Then the bits that fall out (you can either flatten > cut > move, or just duplicate the texture) got moved over to the opposite edge.
Things that fall out the right side get moved to the inner left side, out the top to inside bottom, etc. (if they fall out two sides you obviously have to move them from both left to right and top to bottom).
Hope that makes sense.
Doesn't mean there's not an easier way.
I saw something about bicubic somewhere else but I couldn't figure out how to resize with it or where to even change the setting. I guess I could have googled it but whatever. I finally did finish the folder structure... even came across a herobrine texture I'm sure was put in there for the lulz.
There was a little bit of bleeding but it actually came out with a neat effect in-game making individual blocks have a slight border. Water, snow, and I think ice have this neat little border which is perfectly fine (not enough to make me want to redo this whole thing).
Mods being used:
Buildcraft 3
Equivelant Exchange 2
Thaumcraft 2
Forestry
Advanced Machines 4
Compact Solars
ExtremeBiomes XL
IC2
Iron Chests
NEI
Wireless Redstone Chicken Bones Edition
Once the Bacon Mod gets updated to work properly with Forge, I'll be using that as well. Mmh Bacon. Crossing fingers someone will have made a sphax patch for it, or I might try it myself.
Thank you now i can get the leaves for twilight forest and tropicraft done

Oh one teeny thing about the Thaumcraft textures... there broken or atleast some textures fall off the edge of blocks and some items look like a pig sat on them would you mind waiting 'till i fix them before adding them

Well as a few of them are ones I look after I guess it's a big enough prod to do 32x for a lot of them (all though NEI and ExtraBiomesXL are already 32x)
Hmm, I was planning on recording the first episode tomorrow. And seeing how I've already had them added, it will kind of be a pain to pull them all back out now.
What I can do, since I have a lot of mods to play with, I can just avoid the Thaumcraft 2 stuff for now until its been updated. I dont know a whole lot about the mod anyway, so it'll give me some time to do some more research before I start recording those bits.
Oh... and I did see a couple of them were in 32x already. I just stuck with the 64x and resized, so they got an equal treatment and nothing looked out of place.
And side-note: My partner in crime on the channel is doing a SSP with Tropicraft and mentioned before recording that he's looking forward to the texture being worked on here so he can use it in his vids.
