Hi,

As usual, comes the feedback thread for the last update of PureBDcraft, named this time "Redstone Update".

In this version, a lot of things have changed and lot of other things appeared. For example, all the file system have changed and it's not anymore 2 spritesheets but 450+ files to cover all the Minecraft textures... So some errors can have been introduced and I trust you to report them.

Some examples of the new things (details in Changelog of PureBDcraft):

  • Rotten flesh is now a rotten zombie brain. I like this much more. Happy
  • The Netherrack is now animated and can be disgusting and strange but that's exactly the feel I wanted for the Nether. I'll maybe change it if a number of players have vomited while exploring the Nether...
  • New animated Clock (default and alternative one). Be sure to try the alternative one, I quite like it. Happy
  • New animated Compass with nice looking needle
  • New items with cool looking Nether Quartz item.
  • A lot more...

Do you have any feedback, comments, ideas, opinions about the last version of PureBDcraft?

Do you like the tweaks and additions?

For everything mentioned here, I'm using mcpatcher-3.0.0-beta2 (all options selected) with snapshot 13w03a, so excuse any bugs that are related to known issues with either and not the texture pack itself.

  • Zombie Flesh: Fantastic. Nothing better than a zombie coming at you holding someone else's brains.
  • Netherrack: Its every bit as disorienting as I thought it might be when animated, but the effect is very well implemented and gives you the feeling that the Nether is a pulsing, living thing. The effect cycles a bit too fast for my taste, so I would recommend a hellrock.txt with *2 delays if everyone else vomits. Mmf
  • Nether Quartz Ore: The block looks good, though now that the Netherrack is animated, this might look better if the Netherrack background was animated as well. To make it even tougher to find Nether Quartz Ore, maybe have the Quartz bits only become subtly uncovered by the other texture every few seconds as if the Nether was oozing around them? With Netherrack I think you've found a way to make the Nether a bit more jarring, but with an animation for this you could make it more challenging as well.
  • Lava animations: I also had to slow this one down too. I went with *6 delays so flows looked more goopy. Just my taste, probably.
  • Clock: I'm glad I saw this thread, as I hadn't even considered that the new clock would be included as an alt instead of the new default. I'm really glad that in the end you went with something simpler. The simple orb with the sun and moon looks a lot better and cleaner than the dial clock. It has my vote for default status, and I might even use a hotbar slot for the clock from now on (inventory slot at the very least).
  • Compass: Animated needle looks good, and can be seen easily from the hotbar. Much better than MC's default used to be. (almost couldn't see that)
  • Wood Doors/Iron Doors: When you hit them, the particles are for lava— not sure why. Also the hinged texture on the opposite side of the door from where it is placed is flipped. In other words, the hinge side is not the same on both sides of the door. I believe they lined up before.
  • Iron Bars: Showing up as glass panes.
  • Wood Fence/Nether Brick fence: Parts of the Wood Fence & Nether Brick Fence in hand as well as the item view are missing. They look correct when placed; possibly due to the CTM textures.
  • Glass Panes: In some orientations half-width glass panes show up with a tan, almost brown texture. Also, the item view has a lava texture along at least one 'side' when seen in the hand and when rotating while dropped.
  • Redstone items: I know some of these were just added or just the item view hasn't been done, but when implemented will the Trapped Chest have the exact same texture as a regular chest or will you add some subtle clue (like vanilla MC's red tint around the latch)? Can the chest textures be animated at all if they are separate texture maps?

Beautiful work on this addition to the pack!

- Ok so first of all i dont realy like netherrack effect. pls make it optional. its too fast for my taste, too distracting. Overall very good but not for me.

- Quartz blocks are very nice i like them. Ore fits very well too.

- Redstone block is fine but i would like just recolored lapis block without a border.

And some of older stuff:

- Can You change or make alternative textures for emerald and diamond block without borders?
- Can You do proper fern? Happy I like ferns in my pots but it looks like ordinary grass.
- Can You make beacon block more special? Im thinking of removing wooden border and maybe making something decorative, as it was previously?
- Chiseled stone brick - i know You can do something better and more decorative Happy

I love almost everything, just the netherrack, water and lava animations make me so dizzy. Please please please reduce them.
I really think it would be great if you added a animation for nether quarts ore.
And i agree with Cr0wmaster on the fern and chiseled stone brick, those would be great.

I'll write my message in french, sorry about this, I'm not good enough to write it in English (But there is a summary at the end).

English / Anglais

Some little things I'd like to change in PureBDcraft :

  • Leaves
The leaves on the edge of the bloc are "cut". It looks wierd with graphics set to FANCY.

  • Flowers
They're too large to be used in flower pots.

  • Redstone lamp
They dont look like the default texture and the metal corners look wierd (my opinion).

  • Wheat
The last stage texture is too similar to the second last one. It's difficult to see if they're fully grown.

  • Soulsand
It's too "shiny", it doesn't look like sand.

  • Netherack animation
The moving bubbles make me feel dizzy when I'm in the Nether.

Thanks for your ideas of tweaks to improve PureBDcraft. Winking

About the soulsand, I'll probably not change it. I like how it is now. I designed it more as "mud" than "sand" and that's why it looks like a bit shiny... Winking

Here are some workarounds and explanations - my 2c for the latest "bugs"

- Door particles throwing lava were bugged in the 13w03a (MC's fault, not Sphax), in the latest snapshot 13w04a it works fine

- Use the latest MC patcher. It makes game run way more smoothly, and makes texture look nice in 3-D (no more jagged edges around sword, dropped items, etc... In MC Patcher's current build, don't use compass-related stuff, bcs it messes up animated textures

- Animated textures do not require anything to work except for the .png with frames in it - so feel free to replace whatever you want/like. I am not sure about how .txt description would slow frames down, or change anything - I am a complete newb when it comes to texturing MC. With MC Patcher, you can make some other textures - Sphax included - compatible. Even better than with old unstitcher.jar

- MC Patcher's autor (forgot his name) says he is working on a workaround for that 4096 pixels limitation, so don't drop your superHD hopes just yet Happy

Sphax, i am a huge fan of the new animations and i have a few suggestions for two other blocks to be animated.

Glowstone

I've always imagined Glowstone to "pulse" with light and I think it would be nice to have the little stone like shapes in the block change in light intensity randomly.

Soul sand

No sure about this one. Since the nether is living now(The netherrack anim looks like blood Very Happy) the souls in it should be living too! It could be nice to have them wiggle around a bit slowly and open and shut they're mouths.
