I've always thought the PureBDcraft texture for netherrack stands out from all other textures. While the others are cartoonish and/or angular, this one is full of perfectly round dots and reminds me a lot of one of those psycheledic 1960's wallpapers that might adorn the home of Austin Powers... Winking

Personally, I think of netherrack as a material a bit like crumbly concrete or soft sedimentary rock, but this texture looks more like patterned textile or a microscopic closeup of blood. Let me be clear, I'm not saying it's ugly! It is nice, but just not what I expected netherrack to look like.

Did anyone else react the same way about netherrack?

Nether items are generally circular/rounded to set them apart.

I'm not sure how a bloodsplatter-esque texture can be bad when the vanilla texture is blatantly intestines. It is hell after all.

Hey, that's interesting! I've never seen the similarity to intestines before, but now that you mention it...! Like a block of gory guts, packed together! Happy That explains the blood splatter look in PureBDcraft.

However, I never said it was bad, I expressly said it was nice but unexpected and apart from other textures. The thing is, I've always pictured netherrack as a type of reddish rock with red lichen or some sort of red substance on it. A bit like red moss cobblestone. But with your explanation, my view has broadened.

Anyone else with yet other thoughts about it?

My first idea with the Nether in PureBDcraft was to make it looks like more organic than the normal world. To let it be more organic than the normal world, it's better to use soft shapes. After this, I expanded the concept to all natural&organic textures like the logs and leaves in the normal world. The other textures are angular when manufactured or non-organic...

To be honest, I though the Nether like the inside of organs and would love to see those things move and pulse blood... Tongue

However, you're right with the thing that PureBDcraft is a lot angular and that's intended with some exceptions. Winking

I'm happy I asked about this, because I now have a whole new view of the Nether! The thought of whole caverns pulsating and oozing blood sounds awesome! I can almost hear for my inner ear the beating of a giant heart, like a distant drum inside the Nether. Would be cool if the texture pack featured a bit of pulsating and gore when animated textures becomes possible.

If not... well, then I still get to play Minecraft with the coolest, and best-looking texture pack! Very Happy

So you were the one who put an idea of moving textures in Sphax's head in the new pre-1.5 update Very Happy

Not really, I has the idea since the beginning, however, Minecraft wasn't designed to support it by default and I didn't developed my AnimMaker tool. Tongue

I didn' quite like it in it's moving form, as I stated in some other topic... I know what are you trying to accomplish - I saw similar effect in some other games and it was very cool, but minecraft wasn't made with that in mind, so everything seems like it is moving, not pulsating - organ like. Rather disorienting. Yes, it is a bit trippy, but still isn't something I would put in the final release... Texture itself is awesome, like all other things, and in my humble opinion, Mojag should hire you for graphic design and give you the pay check, as this texture in general is what minecraft should look like from the beggining !

Idea: maybe you could make texture elements animated, you know, like circles which change size in a pulsating manner or some other form of static animation. When I stand still, with the current state of the netherrack, I got a feeling I will fall over the edge Very Happy

Psionic: You should probably like the last version of the Netherrack in PureBDcraft 1.5.1. The bubbles are not moving anymore, just distording themselves... I'll maybe add little "pulsating" effect however. Happy

It's much better than previous. I kept it, so it means I like it Happy Thanks for hearing me out.
