Need some help with making texture patches.

So I just got into making textures. And I decided to start with making a texture patch for the Extended Workbench mod. I started by remaking the texture for the greatswords. So I decide to test out the textures by adding them to the BDCraft Resource Pack. But the textures don't seem to work, it just ends up using the standard 16x16 textures that came with the mod.


To clarify: I made sure that the path in the resource pack mirrored the path in the mod folder.
(assets->extendedworkbench->textures->items)

When that didn't work, I tried overwriting the textures in the mod itself. The textures didn't change at all, still using the standard 16x16 textures despite them not existing in the mod anymore.

Then, on a whim, I decided to turn off all mods except for the Extended Workbench mod and Optifine, and still, no change whatsoever.

Is there something I'm missing? Is there something I don't know that I should? I would like to know.
