I apologize if this in the wrong section, I still haven't figured out the new navigation system yet.

OptiFine has a flat-no policy when it comes to public modpacks, and so I'm asking if it would be possible to either convert or copy the existing connected texture system to use the CTM mod alongside or instead.

I ask this because at the current situation, the only legal way to have PureBDcraft connected textures functioning on a public pack is to have individual users modify their own PureBDcraft or install OptiFine into the pack. Both pose their own problems: most players would be clueless as to how to modify the internals of the resource pack, and the other option would cause OptiFine to be removed every time the modpack came around for updates.

The other two options are both illegal, custom variants of PureBDcraft cannot be distributed and OptiFine is barred from public modpacks.

I will do some work to see if I can port Caden's connected textures over for myself. If you guys decide to go through with this, the developers of the CTM mod created a texture pack that supports it so you have a rough idea of how it works: Connected Textures Pack

I think this is actually a "fuzzy" edge case.

The Terms state you can't take textures to make a remix pack (which would generally be considered a pack that's strictly intended to change the look of Minecraft in general), whereas the modpack rules state you can use assets for mod patches where the general effect is the same.

As the CTM mod isn't a sweeping change, but rather adding support taking textures from the main pack to make the CTM mod work is okay as long as it remains as a separate small patch (like other mod patches).

Another reason why it should be okay to make a patch is, quite simply, we'll never support a mod like that in the main pack. There's no guarantee of it's longevity, and it's more work for little gain as not everyone who plays modded moves on to the newer MC versions (in fact, as far as modded go, the player base diminishes constantly as people stick to older versions).

So, if you want to make a mod patch for the CTM mod: please do and please release it on the forum for everyone else ;)

Everything was going to plan until now. I’ve converted most big things, save for one. I’ve made a GitHub issue about that, but if it isn’t possible to utilize both, are you guys okay with me utilizing the alternate redstone block to override the main texture alongside the CTM version?

I say this because the static CTM and the animated single version don’t work together.

I guess that's up to you to decide. A warning note in the thread would be good so people are aware.
