A while ago Sphax posted a PSD preview dll(?) for Windows which which cost money, so I decided to find a free alternative (which, might I add, didn't take long).
The above is a little, free program for Windows that works on both 32bit and 64bit and can add lots of image previews thumbnails to filetypes (it also adds some other minor features).

Most notably it supports .psd's and .ai's (ai support needs an extra .exe which is available on the above link, too).

The shortfall of the program is by default it also offers filetypes such as png which are already natively supported, but for some reason turns their backgrounds black when they should be transparent or, at least, did for me.

All the filetypes it interacts with are customizable however, so I recommend turning them all off except things such as .psd and .ai :)

I can add to this... Windows default image viewer is garbage (in my humble opinion :P) so I use FastStone Image Viewer, which supports PSD's along with every other image format you can think of and like the name suggests, it's VERY quick at opening images - much faster then the default image viewer. The best part? It's FREE too :D

Obviously I'm talking about a full-blown image viewer, not an image preview-facilitator. You'll still want to check out Hanfox's suggestion for handy windows explorer previews :). FastStone Image Viewer does not come with any kind of image previewing functionality. It's simply an image viewer, which will take the place of the default one.
