I've just accepted an answer for my topic to say that I found the answer, so it locked it, but I find that it's sad to block answers after this.
Some times it's intersting to be able to discuss even after that the topic is answered.

Moreove, I don't understand why the topic is TOTALLY locked, even for the author, 'cause if he wants to change something, it's impossible...
I understand that it helps to keep topic clear and clean, but maybe you can let the author lock and unlock his topics, so topics will stay clean and clear, but with a bit more flexibility : )

*moved to Box of Ideas*

Generally if the issue is fixed what's left to edit?

If you have a new issue crop up you can always ask for it to be re-opened or open a new thread and then a moderator may see it fit to merge and unlock.

I personally prefer it this way as it stops people unlocking threads months or years down the line...

Not necessary edit, but some could ask for more informations. Or give their opinion or a better solution.
Or maybe just talking. I think this is what brings friendlyness in forums.

Maybe you can let the author choose for some hours/days... and fix a time limit after wich le topic is automaticly locked if there is no new answer.
It could be a compromise between totaly locked immediatly and unlocked after years.

It would require a custom forum script and is not really worth it.

The other sections of the board are for chat.

It's like I said before if you choose to mark a help thread as solved then your issue must be fixed. I don't really consider that unfriendly.
