I was wondering before I download it and test it if the 64x versions of the TP for FTB uses less memory? My friends are unable to handle the memory usage for the texture pack.

The lower the resolution, the less memory it takes. That being said, the more mods you're trying to support also increases the memory requirements. Technically, if you only had a few mods, you could use 128x resolution, but if you're using a pack like FTB which has upwards of 50 mods, you'll probably have to settle with 64x or 32x.
Go ahead and download the different resolutions and test them out, you'll find one that works
