I'm running the FTB pack 1.1.3 (recommended version) for Minecraft 1.5.2.

Allotted 3GB ram to Java, and 5GB to the FTB launcher (with 4 to spare). I'm getting random crashes where the game just terminates, and closes out itself and the launcher (so no log to see what caused the crash).

Is there any known bug with BDCraft and the FTB 1.1.3 version? Any ideas on how to stop this? It crashes after anywhere from 5 minutes to 5 hours in gameplay, so it's very frustrating to try and narrow down.

Help? What else can I provide to make your lives easier on this?

Why are you giving Java some and FTB some?

Just assign it via FTB only it'll create the Java environment with whatever you tell it to.

I imagine you would want to give it 8GB. Baring in mind you can't give FTB all of your system RAM at once.

I'll try that and report back

9GB allocated to FTB, removed allocation to Java. Crashed.

The only thing that comes to mind for random crashing is if you go in your FTB Options > Advanced Options > Additional Java Parameters and enter -XX:PermSize=512M (make sure you include the leading minus sign).

If that doesn't help I can only suggest to use a lower resolution of textures as it's likely your world is now so "complex" that it can't handle the simulation and the textures at once.

I'll give it a whirl, thanks!

Crashed. Sigh. Wouldn't have figured that x128 would be overloading a 4.1ghz 12GB ram computer. That's just baffling...what kind of systems do the folks that play x512 have?

Well most people who use 512x don't use mods generally, or at least don't use 512x for all their mods, but generally people who do use 512x have top end PCs that cost thousands of dollars.

You'll just have to use 64x I guess.

For what it's worth, I decided to turn on a vid recorder to capture the screen when it crashes, before the launcher terminates.

A fatal error has been detected by the Java Runtime Environment:

# Problematic frame:
# C [OpenAL64.dll+0x6220]

# Failed to write core dump. Minidumps are not enabled by default on client versions of Windows

I could get you the entire log in a pastebin, if you'd like (or if you think it'd be helpful)

Tried it, took a while, but crashed out again. Had task manager running (for extra funsies); had over 2GB ram untouched, and CPU never cracked 60%, so it doesn't seem (but what do I know) that it's a resource issue.
(*edit. I'm 100% sure it's not a resource issue, as it crashes no matter if I assign anywhere between 3 and 9GB ram to the launcher. The CPU isn't anywhere close to even 60% optimization, so that's out. If I assign less than 3gb ram, it gives the "out of memory" error message, and that's what I'd expect when running FTB and BDCraft.)

Going to try and step my graphics drivers backwards (they were up to date) and see if one of the previous versions creates stability (Radeon 6950, currently 13.9, moving back to 13.4, and so forth).

Probably going to try previous Java versions too.

Update (since I've seen this problem googled, but not really answered):

The sound files in Minecraft (and Feed the Beast) are causing the conflict. Bizarro.

I removed files OpenAL64.dll and OpenAL32.dll from the folder(s) and I've been online for over 90 minutes, changing biomes, doing work, etc, and no crashes....course, there's no sound either.

Time to find new sound files (as windows7 reports the drivers are current).

Final update; I got a new version of OpenAL installed; over 10 hours with no crashes, and sound is fully restored.

I hope this helps for future issues!

@Redius Can you give me a link to where you got the OpenAL updated drivers? I want to include this in the official guide in the help center. I'm glad you got this resolved.

Thanks.
