how can i use a custom skin when i use bdcraft on tekkit classic it goes to the hero skin can i change this?

Unless you're playing in offline mode, or a mod is interfering, your skin should be pulled from minecraft.net as usual.

how do i know if im playing in offline mode?

You would just need to check your options in the launcher. Make sure you entered your Minecraft login details correctly wherever the launcher prompts for them.
