hello,

i am having a strange issue when trying to load multiple resource packs. i am not sure exactly what the issue is so thought i would ask here. at the moment i am trying to load about 15 - the main pack and various mods. if i add about 12-13 the game loads them just fine. but when adding the last couple, the game unloads all of the resources and goes back to vanilla.

i thought this might be because i was loading too many. so i tried to combine most of them so i only had about 4 to load. however loading just the 4 resulted in the same issue.

i have allocated 8GB to MC so do not think that memory is an issue. so i am wondering if it is possible that there is a conflict between 2 packs? else i am a little lost. as a test i have loaded all of these at some point successfully, in various combinations - i am just unable to load them all at once. i have even tried lower resolution packs but same result.

currently i am trying to load:
- PureBDcraft 128x MC112
- PureBDcraft More 3D Blocks MC111
- PureBDcraft Technology MC111
- Sphax_128x_Buildcraft_MC1.12
- Sphax_IronChests_128x
- Sphax_Refined_Storage128x_MC1.12
- Sphax_ThermalFoundation_128x
- Sphax128x_IC2_Ver2.8.16
- Sphax128x_AE2_rv4
- Sphax128x_BOP_Ver7.0.1.2334
- Sphax128x_ExtraUtils_MC1.12.2
- Sphax128x_Iron_Backpacks_MC1.12.2
- Sphax128x_QuantumStorage_MC1.10.2
- Sphax128x_Thermal_Expansion
- Sphax128x_Twilight_Forest_MC1.12

thank you for any advice you can offer.

It's just likely that 8GB is not enough.

128x packs use a lot of RAM, barely anyone can run them any more.

If you can't assign any more RAM you'll need to use 64x instead.

thanks for reply @HanFox.

i can probably bump it up to 10 or 12GB now i know that might be the case.

but is there any way to tell how close you are to the limit? i have replaced some packs now with 64x and it has taken the total MB down below 100MB. i would have thought this more than enough. but there is just no way to tell. what would be recommended total resource size for say 8GB?

cheers.

The size of the packs in MB isn't directly relatable to RAM usage.

Minecraft takes each block and item texture and puts it in one massive sheet. It does this in RAM before moving that to VRAM.

Minecraft also uses RAM to "bake" models and load certain parts of mods, so it can vary wildly from many factors.

Basically you're stuck with trial and error to find what's best for you.
