So as the title suggests, I'm having some issues with my FPS.

Before I go on, here are my computer specs.
CPU: i7 7700k
GPU: GTX 1080
RAM: 32GB 3200 MHz (16GB allocated to the game)
Monitor Resolution: 2560x1080
My CPU usage is never above 17% and my GPU usage is never above 30%.

I haven't played the game since 1.12, and I've just returned to play on my Realm. This also means my computer is not running the game as if I was playing single player. I used to be able to run a 512x texture pack along with shaders, mods and the works, pretty easily, run the game with no stuttering or issues and have a healthy 50+ FPS. Today however, I can only run a 256x texture pack with no mods and shader packs, and I only see 30ish (always low 30) FPS with stutters. I know my CPU is now ageing, but surely my graphics card should be okay to run this game better than it is :(

I am going crazy over this, and I am wondering why the FPS is so low on a 256x texture pack. Has the game really added that much that it is now more taxing at 1080p than high end games? Does anyone have any idea what I'm missing here >.<

Thank you :(

The game generally requires more power with every release, but you should still be getting a decent FPS with that CPU and a 1080.

Try installing OptiFine and see if that helps you.

Unfortunately even on 1.14 with Optifine (as of last night) I was seeing the exact same numbers :( I'm thinking that the game isn't using the GPU as much as it should with the usage never going over 30%. Do you think that could be a cause? Surely it should hit 99% (100%) in every game to hit the settings you choose?

Also, can I ask. Do you know if my computer meets the requirements for a 512x pack? It's just I was getting around 15 FPS with that active.

30% sounds low, but Minecraft loves the CPU, too.

Are you 100% sure your onboard Intel chip graphics are definitely disabled, or at least that Minecraft isn't trying to use them?

Which card does the F3 screen inside Minecraft say?

Hopefully this link works. This is what the game shows after loading.

EDIT: This is a completely vanilla 256x installation on a realm. Yeah both the CPU and the GPU are sitting at around 20% utilisation, and my FPS is sitting at 27.

Apparently in MC1.15 they've been fiddling with how framerate caps... it could be the game is just simply aiming for 30FPS.

You might need to fiddle about in the Video Settings of the Options (although I do see you have 60FPS vsync in your F3).

The capping may also just need work. What is the FPS without the resourcepack?

That's an interesting read. I do have vsync set, and my monitor has a 60Hz refresh rate. The issue is, there is a massive amount of stuttering and the game is just not smooth like it should be. The only time my computer uses it's resources (CPU/GPU) is when I'm using the launcher to load the game, after that, everything just stops being used :(

Without the texture pack my FPS is around 40, the game feels smoother and my GPU is actually doing work which is strange.

EDIT: Just done some running around with no texture pack and I'm hitting 60 FPS consistently. But. I've just activated the 512x texture pack and I'm only getting 9 FPS with 12% CPU and 11% GPU utilisation. It's like the higher the texture pack the lower work my computer does. It's really weird. I thought the higher the pack the more work my computer should do...

Does anyone know what the recommended requirements for the 512x texture pack by any chance?
