I have to say I really enjoy sphax and it is by far one of my favorites as a general purpose pack. The only thing i just generally don't like is the gem block textures. I apologize if I'm bringing this up again after someone else.

I like the design of the gem itself, the only thing i take issue with is the wooden frame... It is quite difficult to get certain effects, and i feel like it fails miserably with connected textures. When I want connected textures I want a relatively smooth, continuous and uninterrupted surface.

The only place i can find this texture to be even worse is when I'm working with micro blocks. Somtimes I like to give things gem and precious metal trimmings. The way those blocks interact with the textures means that a lot of the smaller blocks end up just being the frame.

I certainly do not mean to offend anyone, and I apologize if it seemed a little bit ranty. But I love this texturepack it's so unique. I just thought these ideas should be put out for consideration, and I feel some changes could help make this pack more versatile.

Best Regards,

TheLordStark

I wasn't aware of alternate gem textures. I did try looking for them but all I seem to be able to find is a handful of old suggestions, requests and limited discussion.

Leaving me wonder where to find and how to implement any alternative textures that exist.

You can find the alternative textures within the texture/resource pack itself. In 1.5 versions and prior, you can find them inside the textures>blocks folder, named blockDiamond_alt1.png and blockEmerald_alt1.png. In the resource pack, they are located inside the folder titled blocks_alt (or something like that). When you find these textures, rename them to be the same as the wooden frame ones, then delete the wooden framed ones and put the new ones into the blocks folder (or if using the 1.5 texture pack, they'll already be there). This should work for the regular game, but you may need to also delete the gem blocks in the ctm folder as well, if you use that.

I see, it would seem these mythical alternate textures exist in the 1.5 verson, shame i need it for 1.4.7. It's easy enough to move them over, and I can live without the connected textures. Alt ctm versions would be amazing, but I shall make do.

Thanks!

You could download a 1.5 texture pack, copy the alternate's image, put it in the 1.4.7 pack, and then delete the 1.5 pack.

I made the alternatives for the 1.4.7 texture pack.
Just save the image as.

I did it in 256x, 128x, and 64x. If you are using 512x, I'm really sorry. I could have, but I didn't feel like downloading such a big file for such a small change, but I'll still do it. :-/

If you're using 32x or 16x, just resize the image to fit 512x512 for 32x, or 256x256 for 16x.

The folder has one for the each of the resolutions I set up for you.

There's a ReadMe in the folder in case you don't know how to switch the images. :)

Download it!
