I was wondering of something and was hoping to get the community (and moderators) input on.

I really love the Sphax texture pack, I think it looks great. I also love the fact that the community maintains a large amount of mod patches. But I have noticed that some patches either are out of date or remain unfinished. Which is kind of a bummer.

I was wondering if there is any kind of restriction or unspoken rule or posting bounties on mod patch. For example I would post a $10 bounty or maybe completing a texture patch for "mod X". And maybe $20 to $25 for building new texture patches that have not been created yet. Bounties could be collected by whatever electronic means the author would want.

Please I would some input on this, I would like to help fuel patch development.

It's against the License to accept money for making patches as that would be considered commercial use. It's actually technically against the License to make patches at all due to them being derivative works.

If you'd read the Rules in the mod releases section it says adf.ly links are not allowed. So if adf.ly isn't allowed accepting "bounties" definitely isn't.

People should make patches because they WANT to make patches, not because they want to make a quick buck. It's almost certain that by introducing bounties we'd be introducing patches that are of truly terrible quality.

Ah! That's exactly what I was looking for. I did not think about the idea that quality would suffer. Thanks for the input. well there is always plan B. Make friends with some graphic artists...

But besides that - it's really sad to see that some of the patches never get completed.

@Pesti Maybe one day artists will be able to get some bonuses at some point. Sadly things like that take time to accomplish.

your wording is better than mine. that more what I meant. bounty was a wrong word on to describe.

Ah! I'm so guilty of this. I've started adding to a few patches a while back, but have finished none. I should get back in the game* :D

*(Yeah it'll probably be a few weeks before I do.)

It's quite a dilemma what to do about these: I realize that mods often change too fast for the texture artist(s) to completely keep up, but I find it hard to excuse the absence of textures for blocks/items that haven't changed in over a year (e.g. GregTech crops).

However, posting to the existing mod-specific thread often seems futile, there's no separate section (yet) for apparently-abandoned patches to allow others with sufficent time (and artistic talent) to pick them up, and the rules forbid posting in the requests section for a mod that already has a patch (even when said patch seems to have been abandoned)

Having the 16x textures that are provided by the mods themselves mixed with 128x textures looks bad, but reverting everything to default 16x textures looks worse.
