The vanilla texture 128x pack is 21.6MB. My DW20 MC1.12 128x texture pack is 218MB. Hmmm

8GB VRAM is not enough for the DW20 128x pack. I have the same. Hence even though I have 20GB of normal RAM allocated it will not run the DW20 128x pack.

The size of the texture pack does not relate to the VRAM used. When minecraft loads it creates a texture atlas of 16384x16384 in RAM. Once complete it transfers it to the VRAM for gameplay. The video card will not allow anything higher as it still needs VRAM to ceate the image you see and anuthing else you may have running on the PC. If it cannot fit all the textures supplied on to this it defaults back to vanilla. I've heard this can be changed to a larger size but I have no idea how to do it. I'm happy with 64x so I use that.

Optifine may help but the way it is programmed is for the vanilla pack only. Some mods use their own rendering system which are badly affected by Optifine causing all sorts of weird graphics.

You would need a graphics card that supports a larger texture size (such as the nvidia 10 series which support 32,768 x 32,768 textures) and I believe OptiFine as I'm not sure Minecraft stats the capabilities of cards probably as MauveCloud points out here. Just some FYI, for you in case you get anyone's hopes up who reads your post :P
