@Daxtillion Start with 4 gigs and work your way up until you feel you've hit the proverbial sweet spot :)
Hahah sounds like a plan! I tried on 4gb and it just hung on the mojang screen :P
Im going to move FTB to one of my SSD's that should help!

Dax - I allocate 8GB when I use either 64x/128x. I'm uncertain how other MC/java versions handle this, but, from my own personal experience with this (and yes, I do stare at the RAM usage from time to time), there is no issue assigning 8GB when you won't need that much. My 64x texture pack will use about 5-6GB of RAM and not try to use up the rest of the RAM available. I don't entirely like the 128x anymore cuz of the programming of MC doesn't allow for good fps without additional software to increase efficiency (aka Optifine). Speaking of which, anyone know of a good replacement for Optifine? :o I was getting much better performance with it as far as fps, better chunk loading etc.

I know ive even suggested to others not to use it, but will adding Optifine (even with the apparent FTB patch) cause more issues than it solves? because i agree.. Optifine was a god send when using texture packs of higher res.

@LightHero Mojang tried to buy Optifine, but he denied.... Sadly it's the only complete optimization software out there for Minecraft at the moment. We'll either have to wait for Mojang to properly optimize their graphics engine or hope that Optifine will start supporting mods that have their own custom rendering handlers.

Well, from what I've read, Optifine cuts into the hardcoding of MC - which in turn, can cause other issues at random. For instance, when using Optifine EVEN with the patch that everyone is raving about (which was created for shaders), you still have things that render invisibily, namely entities, such as chests, mobs, and even self portrait. Everything else seems to work fine with the newer FTB MC 1.6.4 modpacks. So, if you are willing to deal with invisible things (which, I couldn't stand it after a while), than, you can technically use Optifine....I have removed the 'fix' link from my texture packs as it isn't something I would use.

That's amazing Aedaeum...I was also informed that sp614x will not change his code to conform with mod support/MC support etc. Therefore, it's half-supported with MC and it's mods, I guess, in a way :( idk, maybe MC 1.7+mods could be different, but, doesn't look good. Guess we shall see how it plays out

@LightHero I'm hoping that with the recent hiring of Searge for the API (creator of MCP - mods would not be possible without it) that the modding community has a bright future. I just hope he has complete autonomy and doesn't have to make concessions which might hinder mod development.

Sorry to bug LightHero, but I was wondering if any work had been done on the 32x pack? I'm using the 64x and loving it, but I think the 32x would be a little smoother.
Thanks for all your work, loving the pack so far.

I don't understand the question?! I have a 32x texture pack in the OP downloads section directly below the 64x. And, you aren't bugging me unless you constantly post things like "Hurry up with the new patches!!!!" :)

Oh I'm sorry I assumed because the little disclaimer said that certain textures were only in the 64 or 128 pack that the 32 wasn't being updated, happy to hear that I was mistaken and I'll try out the 32 when I get home :)

Nah - it just means that some of the textures that artists make are only available in either the 128x or 64x - I put the lowest of those in the 32x pack - so, the 32x pack will be slightly larger than a full 32x pack should be :(
