Alternative Blocks and Items

As you may or may not know the PureBDcraft pack has quite a few alternative and old textures hidden within the structure and currently there is no easy way to use them without messing around with the zip structure.

The customiser

You can access the customiser below. If you find any issues with it please let me know.

Your customiser is nice, and seems to work in 1.10 as well (even though the 1.10 textures aren't out yet, so I'm using it with 1.9 textures - I hope the old lava and nether-related textures will remain available as alt textures in the same zip so I can use the customiser if I decide I don't like the new textures), but a few of the descriptions confuse me:
1. the bookshelf variants don't seem that much different.
2. the grass path alternate doesn't seem that much different, and is described as "Style from before MC1.8", but the block didn't exist until MC1.9.
3. the ice alternate is described as "Style from before MC1.8", but I opened up a 1.7 sphax zip, and the default ice texture there matches the default for 1.9, though it also has an alternate block texture with parallel lines instead of jagged lines. It might have once been the default, but not for 1.7.

It isn't. It's just without the depth on the shelves. Basically it's just a clean block instead of a model.
2. the grass path alternate doesn't seem that much different, and is described as "Style from before MC1.8", but the block didn't exist until MC1.9.
It just has the old grass design below it and the description I changed a while ago, but didn't upload. So that's changed now.
3. the ice alternate is described as "Style from before MC1.8", but I opened up a 1.7 sphax zip, and the default ice texture there matches the default for 1.9, though it also has an alternate block texture with parallel lines instead of jagged lines. It might have once been the default, but not for 1.7.
As above I realised the mistake a while ago and just hadn't uploaded it. Now no description mentions MC versions because for new users that's irrelevant.

Thanks for the feedback :)

I just came across an issue: For the grass, I selected the style now called "diagonal style", and the undersides of the blocks are showing a magenta and black "error" texture.

In case it matters, I'm using 512x textures, though I don't understand why your customiser has a pull-down selection for that, since as far as I could tell, none of the generated .json files rely on the texture size.

Fixed the grass.

The customiser has a resolution selection because some of the customisations (such as water and the elytra) have textures included as they can't be remapped with models.

Confirmed.

Interesting. I guess I didn't see those in the zip because I left those as default.

Now, since Optifine already has a preview version out for 1.10, and I got it working in my game (although I had to drop to 256x due to getting white textures except for grass and leaf colors at 512x, and curiously sign and chest textures worked), I have a feature request: could you please make it so that the "better grass" will honor the grass texture I chose in the customizer? I get the diagonal style for the top, but the sides that show as grass use what's now called the "default" Sphax grass texture.

I have fixed the Better Grass for the diagonal alt. ;)

Thanks again for the feedback. Really helps when there's people willing to actually tell me stuff instead of just silently raging somewhere off in internet land :D

Not quite. :-/ The added line in the properties file in the new optifine folder was for grass path, which Optifine doesn't actually extend onto the sides. However, looking at that line, I was able to add a similar line for grass that worked.

No problem. :)

I've got one more suggestion at the moment, though I wouldn't be surprised if you're less agreeable to it: would you consider adding support for alternative textures/models that aren't yet part of the official PureBDCraft pack even in the alt folders (once you get permission from the respective authors, of course)? For example, the Y-shaped (or maybe you could call it "mad scientist") lever model from this thread: https://bdcraft.net/community/pbdc-ideas ... t5095.html, or the redstone dust that actually looks like dust while in inventory rather than like a gem that I've seen in a couple threads that are hard to find.

Oh, I just realised why you're seeing the grass "wrong"... it's because one file will overwrite the other... (I have a mcpatcher better grass fix in both parts of the customiser (for the grass and grass_path)). Hmm, I'll need to find a proper way to fix that... might need to merge the files instead of just overwriting the other as that file actually handles a few things. Fun edge cases.

That lever has been part of PureBD since 1.9. It even has a custom sound (unless you just mean the inverted "fix").

I can add anything with the customiser within reason. You would need to tell/show me what you mean by it looking like dust though (unless you just mean like glowstone dust, or one of the numerous metal dusts from mods?).

I don't really understand what you mean there, but since I got it working locally, not a big deal for me.

-_-! Silly me. I hadn't actually made a lever in the new version of Minecraft. However, now that I have, I understand that thread better - it makes no sense for it to switch on by opening/disconnecting the contacts. Personally, I'm not that picky about whether the "on" state has the lever pointing upward or downward, as long as it's easy to tell whether it's on or off, and follows some logic as far as the electrical contacts. Also, I notice that only applies if I put it on a wall, which also changes the shape of the lever compared to when I have it in inventory, whereas if I put it on the ground, it stays the same shape as it looks in my inventory.

Like this post (hard to find by searching (so I've bookmarked it), and I don't understand why Sphax won't even put in something like this as an alt texture): https://bdcraft.net/community/pbdc-ideas ... t3131.html
I think there might have been one or two other posts with redstone dust textures done in BDCraft style.
