EDIT: Still no updates? This information is pretty dated now, pretty much need to rebuild an entirely new texture pack at this point with all the changes needed.
Any plans to update this? Many mods have been added/removed/changed. Excessive no longer exists and can be abandoned, which should make it easier to get a good up to date mainline pack out.
Using the up to date Thaumcraft 4 pack and removing textures for mods that are no longer are included, resulted in the pack going from ~250MB to ~175MB and it uses quite a bit less memory in-game.
EDIT: I also added these manually, fixing the biggest holes, went through NEI in-game and looks much better. I'm sure there's more that need updated.
EDIT2: Seems to be a limit to how many textures you can replace. After updating Botania, my world crashes on load even with 32GB of RAM.

For the people talking about RAM usage... You will need ~8GB for the 32x, ~16GB for the 64x, and ~32GB for the 128x. You should never allocate more than 4GB to Minecraft itself or it starts to have issues dumping memory. However, you still need MUCH more than 4GB of physical RAM, because Minecraft's memory usage is misleading. If you allocated 4GB, and the game doesn't start, increasing it will not fix the issue. You simply need more physical memory. Open the task manager, check the performance tab, and click on memory. Look for "commited" to see your actual RAM usage.
With 4GB allocated to Minecraft, I sometimes see 17-18GB commited while using the 64x pack. You can run it on 16GB RAM with a page file on a fast drive, but it will have big stutters if you explore a lot without restarting the game. Doing the above steps, I managed to get it down to 13-14GB and smooth on 16GB of RAM.
You should be able to allocated 3GB to Minecraft to lower that by another 1GB, press F3 while playing and see if you ever exceed 3GB in the top right corner. I'd also recommend uninstalling Java 7 and moving on to Java 8. It fixes all the permgen issues and RR3 is Java 8 compatible.
Hope that helps.

@tyrindor:
Huh 16gb for the 64x? I'm not trying to say your wrong because my knowledge of Java and Minecraft is less than a potatoe but i think it's less than that on Linux machines.
So if I'm guessing right windows uses about 2-4 GB ram while Linux uses barely 1-2 GB ram. So on Linux you might need 4-6gb ram for 32x, 8-12gb ram for 64x and 16-24gb for 128x.
These are just my estimates cuz it (64x) runs perfectly fine on my machine which has only 12gb ram

On initial launch with the 64x pack and current RR3 version I show 11.5GB upon immediate load to a fresh world. Going to a couple dimensions, nether, etc and exploring around the world I show 16-17GB commited. If I stay put it stays at around 13-14GB. I've seen as high as 18GB commited after 6+ hours of playing and it starts using my page file pretty hard.JebKerman wrote:@tyrindor:

No clue how some people use 64x pack with 12GB without massive loading chops. My next build will have 32GB for this reason alone. I don't see how anyone could possibly be using it with 8GB, I've tried it on my friends computer and he can't even load the game with that much RAM. It quickly reaches 8+ GB before reaching the game menu and crashes. He has to run 32x.
Not sure what could be different for you. I just loaded my actual world, and i'm at 13.5GB commited and I haven't even walked anywhere. I do run the server on the same computer, but that only accounts for 1.5GB of that usage.... With 128x, I can't even get to the menu screen before it runs out of RAM.
According to the task manager, Windows 8.1 and my background tasks are using ~1GB total. Though, windows seems to reserve an additional ~2GB of RAM and won't let Minecraft use it. Maybe that's the problem.
I assume you are running Mainline and not lite.
Yes mainline and no you are right it is using most of my ram when I launch Minecraft but I am able to play reasonably well the only problems I'm having is going to the galaticraft dimensions and the ether but other than that it (the 64x) seems fine for Linux on 12gb ram.
Now back to the main thread we shouldn't discuss this here

They work for me, but this pack needs some attention. It's extremely outdated and almost worth just building your own texture pack because of how much RR3 has changed.EndersCast wrote:Tinkers construct is vanilla, along with the molten metals found in the smeltery, how do i fix it?
I'd upload my custom pack I spend a few hours making, but i've added/removed so many mods that it wouldn't work for most people.

Omg. . . That was a long break.
Quick Updates
-Just got a new computer (so now i can re-do this pack)
-I'm in the U.S. doing an Exchange
-Also studying for the cambrige test (so there's not much time for me to update the patch)
-My Host family have a horrible internet connection (which makes me unabble to download quickly lots of things at the same time [that makes me have even less time to download small patches to this pack {and even to upload the final one}])
By the way, RR3 has changed a lot. Ultimate is not a possible thing for the vast majority, I don't know what to do for a new patch since RR3 became a fully customizable modpack. . .
The only thing that comes to my mind is having a program in which you choose the mods you are using and it automatically download them and makes a zip.
For that, First I'll have to check the sphax rules and many other possible deal breakers. But please, bear in mind that this is not a promisse, I'll try, but don't expect it to acctually happen.
Btw, sorry for all my mistakes. I rushed this comment and didn't read what was written.
I've been adding/modifying your pack a ton for my individual server. At the end of the day, it's probably best to just redo the pack completely and aim for "NewMainline" default configuration. People can add textures for optional mods manually.
I deleted over 100MB of unused textures, pretty much every mod needed updated too. Most of the updates I got seemed to come from newest posts in threads, while the textures in the original post were usually more outdated/didn't work correctly with the newest versions of the mods. Something to watch out for.
(Psst.. Applecore textures can be found inside the Spice of Life texture pack!)

Okay! So today I began to work on an updated patch just for my own private version of the pack when I thought of making a patch directly for the Yogscasts "Project Flux" pack. This pack is mostly in 64x yet I did have to sneak some 128x textures in there [as modders sadly haven't downsized some mods, I know that's not part of the rules for BDcraft but this is mostly for Yogscast use and there is only a few of these mods, I'll list them below for those who may want to remove the files if it gets a bit too laggy]
Anyway, here's the download link and I hope it works out fine for all!

Thanks to all the modders and texture artists who made this patch as awesome as it is and helped made Minecraft look OH so pretty.
