Today I attempted to log into my realm. Before connecting, it prompted me to download the texture pack. I assume this means there was an update.

I get to the screen that's says Joining Realm... Loading Resources... Then Minecraft locks up and a black screen appears. I am then taken back to the XBOX Home screen.

The first thing I did was clear cached data on the XBOX, by holding the power button until it shut down. That didn't work.

Next I uninstalled and re-installed the game. That didn't work.

Next, I moved the game from external to internal storage. That didn't work.

Next, I downloaded my realm world locally. That didn't work.

Next, I reconfigured the world and deactivated the VanillaBDCraft resource packs. THIS WORKED!

So... Based on my debugging steps, I'm assuming that the texture pack is the culprit.

Perhaps it's something specific to my world, so if you need a world download please let me know.

The game is meant to detect your device's memory limits and pick the correct resolution for your device, but it doesn't always get it right which may lead to the game crashing.

To rectify the issue manually, you'll need to follow these simple steps:
  1. Open the game
  2. Navigate to Global Resources in your Options
  3. Hit the Plus icon to move the BDcraft pack to the active section
  4. Hit the Wrench icon
  5. Move the slider down to a lower number
  6. Accept the settings and let the pack load

Oh. That's perfect! Thank you @HanFox!

128x is more than enough. Evidently it thinks I could support 256.

Thanks so much for the assistance!

I'm a little frustrated though... I change the texture pack to run at 128x and it runs fine. But the next time I start Minecraft, it doesn't remember the settings, so it crashes again...

Hmm, if it's changing back automatically that's a game bug. We've let Mojang know.

We're uploading a new update which will hide 256x from Xbox however. It should be available soon (as long as it takes Microsoft to certify it).

Okay. Thanks. I think it's probably better to exclude the 256x on the XBOX at this point. It's probably grown past what the XBOX can handle. I have an XBOX One X and run in 4k. If it crashes on the 256, I'm sure the lower end XBOXes would struggle.

Just FYI...

I have submitted this issue to Mojang and they are currently investigating...

Hotfix 1.14.30 seems to have fixed the problem. Unless you pushed out an update with 256x disabled. Then it might just be a coincidence.
