Pffftt, like I even have an artistic bone. I started texturing because I liked sphax and I was bored. I think thats how sparky started too. Due to that, I am in this wonderful community, and met some great friends(yes sparky you actually have a friend :P ;) ). And I haven't done a tutorial in like ages (I'm turning into sparky). Althoouuugghh this weekend I should produce my first gaming video. I have started a youtube group with a bunch of friends.
I also like the look of Sphax textures just seems to fit with the game in my opinion. I can see a bit of a long road ahead of me, getting to know how to do things in CS2 but learning. Already worked out how to do quick resizing while retaining file names etc.
First gaming vid ay! Minecraft? Wish my son would get more into that side of things. Making up videos etc He has my copy of fraps on the comp I built him, but more into playing his game than that sort of thing. He dose well though, he is the main tank in one of Oceanic's better guilds.

Sad really he's the one that got me into Minecraft. Then he left me too it.
Hope those Gaming vids don't distract you to much from what's really important. Your texturing! ;)
Thats great, and yeah, sphax is the only reason I still play minecraft.

I hope to play many other games too, not just minecraft. But yeah minecraft will be one of our main games. We have actually been trying to work towards it for a while. Thats why my texturing tutorials have been taking forever to come out. I hope to do a block tutorial as soon as I get my first few game series out. I actually haven't seen that game before, I must check it out.

My dad "Hates" Minecraft, even though he has never played or even looked at it. I would never be able to get my dad into it.

Did you build a computer? I would, if I knew how to :P. I am trying to learn Java at the moment(of course on my own) so I can make a minecraft mod.

Ok so I'm learning?
Been playing around with Sphaxing the Occulus. I think I picked the wrong thing to Sphax out. Is this a mapping (I think that's what they call it) problem on the modders part? The clear part that is showing is part of the white part of the Original texture. But it doesn't make sense to me. I know what part of the white area covers this, but If I turn it to Stone Bricks stone bricks turn up on the left side of the Eye as well.

Yes. I know the eye doesn't fit the recipe and I used vinteum block instead of topas. But in saying that the Orange and the Red of the original are not really part of the recipe either.
First off I was going to make the White area out of glass pane edges, but didn't like the look of it.
So am I missing something or what, can anyone tell me?

Feel like I need to do some sort of disclaimer lol.
All credit due to those that made the Original textures. I'm only manipulating things while learning CS2.

Building a computer is like electronic lego. It's also rather hard to put something in the wrong place.
The only thing you'll need to watch out for is static, don't build it on a carpet. Crumby pointed out that my computer was on my floor when I was changing my motherboard, and therefore most of the components were balanced on antistatic mats around my room. :P

And, if I had effort I'd show you how to Java too. But effort D: And I'm making a game in C++
It has a single colourful cube so far....... very immersive xD
The pink number is the fps capped to VSync

Try covering the entire texture in some pattern. Like a rainbow or something. You can see where that bit of the texture is applied to the model. It's quite useful for finding texture bounds :D

And I'd recommend starting out with items, they're easier to make look good. Blocks are harder to do shading on.

That's what I did to some degree I put coloured lines down the sides of all the white areas to determine what area was covering it. I know what part of the original texture covers this area. But why dos he (the Modder) have a white line next to what looks like a button and should be brick. Making it brick puts another brick part up higher on the texture.
As far as starting out with items. I don't see myself creating anything for awhile, not till I get to know CS2 and texturing a lot better. All I'm doing at the moment is manipulating already made textures. I teach myself by doing reading annoys me -.-

What resolution is the model texture? It could be a skewy aspect ratio? Else, you may have to ask the modder if it wont accept higher res textures.

Also, it's hard to do manipulation of rasterised textures :P I gave up on it and now I just redraw it if I cant get the original psd :P

Original texture in the mod is a 64x32. I resized to 1024x512. Then cut/copy/paste/cut delete and lined everything up. Only downloaded CS2 few days ago. First day was setting up resizing.
Again it might be awhile before I create from scratch  I thought I did a pretty good job of it apart from where the blank part is. I could put the square boxing back around the eye but I still think it looks wrong. Why is that little white part down there on the stem of the pillar. It looks out of place even on the original texture. nvm
It's all learning!

Curious; have you tried scaling down to 128x64 to see if it happens at lower resolutions?
