To be honest, I don't really think the textures need animating with noise (or anything of the like). At most, they could perhaps have a shine gloss over them or something.
If you wanted my PSD from before, here it is btw: As for your query about the repeater/comparator, you can find those textures in the vanilla resource pack under /assets/minecraft/textures/blocks/repeater_off.png, repeater_on.png, etc. You won't be able to directly copy those (violation of the license), but they look like fairly easy textures to re-draw and alter for this mod. :)

Ah, well in that case I can't help you. :D Nonetheless, re-drawing originals is one the best ways to learn in my opinion.

im trying to work out what the best way to animate the textures would be and i was thinking that procedural noise would make it easier to make each frame. earlier in the thread someone made a flashing version but i dont particularly think thats the best way. atm im doing one of the few textures that doesnt have noise, the redstone automatic observer, do you know where i can find the base sprite for that sort of block? (the thing that looks like a slab under the repeater and comparator)
I'm 100% with you on this one. You can tell from how my quantum block textures turned out that all of your ideas will turn out better than mine. Just a suggestion, what if you made it kinda like a black hole made of pentagons? I don't know. My creative juices aren't flowing yet.

Also, if your going to redraw the original, you might as well use mine. Do you still have the link to my textures?

Yep, I'll be working on it tonight

so i tried my hand at the automatic observer, and i think it turned out alright, see what you think.

i was thinking that i could possibly add some little green sparkles on it to show that it is quantum, i didnt, but you could try if you think it could work nicely.
also, it turns out that fiddling with the saturation and contrast of smooth sandstone is closer to the base of the repeater and comparator than the stone slab. ya learn somethin' new every day.

Hey there, nice work, perhaps just make the 'curved' parts a little thicker. Other than that, I like the idea.

On a different note, I thought I'd go ahead and trace the stone-base part of the repeater/comparator so that the colours are exactly the same (as well as the shape of the edge light/shadows). It's up to you whether or not you use it, but I thought it might help anyone else in future who is creating textures for redstone-gate type devices.

Cool, I'm sure that'll be handy. Yeah with the curved bits, for some reason I was thinking the darker red bits were a stroke, not an inner shadow, so I did make them smaller than planned. I'll hopefully work on it soon

ok, progress.
the quantum computer is sorted, and ive had another go at the automatic observer, although if anyone would like to try it in its on state, ill drop the .psd here too.

so now all we have left is the gui for the two pairs of goggles and the computer, and the block fuzz textures!
EDIT: and the textures for the essences
