Problem with formatting the gui like that is that not everyone will have the same aspect ratio and there might be discrepancies between peoples' displays. Still, short of changing the code of the mod (and questionable legality) this may be the best bet.

It needs a 4px stroke. Otherwise it looks really good! :D

Looking good! I also really like your original so I don't know if I'll be much help ;)

As for animating it, all that I would do is make 4 copies and randomize how the little rectangles in the middle (or the pentagons in your original) are arranged. You could also play with the lighting to add a 'breathing' effect if you wanted. Send me your psd and I'll give it a go if you want :)

Alright, following Novamanga's suggestions, I have changed the goggle guis to something that will hopefully display better on screen. Here they are:

Cheers everyone! I don't think it will be much longer until we are finished :)

Iv'e added the stroke and here's the .psd, so you can hava go at animating it.
iv'e tried doing this randomise thing before and it wasn't the best, but i guess there's a bit of a knack to getting it to look good.
also i updated the op

--edit--
if anyone with diferent screen res can test the guis that would be good.

ok, iv'e got a slight problem. iv'e got this idea for the essence of superposition that's turning out alright, but when i try to use the direct selection tool to change the shape in one frame of the animation, it changes it in all the frames. anyone know how to avoid this?

--edit--
i can make a copy of the shape layer for each frame which works, but if anyone know a better way of doing this, im all ears :)

I use gimp so I might not be much help, but you could try having each frame be a separate file. This is a simple yet effective idea that I find works for me since I can get layers mixed up a lot of the time.

Alright, I did my best to randomize the squares in the new dust, so it would be nice if someone could test it in minecraft to see if it works well. Also I wasn't sure if the original idea for the dust got animated so I compiled an animation for that as well, just for variety. Here they are:

This is without the breathing effect by the way since I didn't think it necessary. Hope this helps!

does anyone know the easiest way to get the frames in photoshop into a tiled animation ready for minecraft to use?

Wouldn't it just be a case of copy each one over and lining it up on the sized strip. Looks like that's what's been done with the project red ones. If you look closely you can see the seams where they join.
So work out how long your strip needs to be IE: If you have a 512 texture and were doing the qblock_unobserved.png At 16x96 =6 frames if you have a 512 texture x6 would be a canvas of 512x3072 then just copy in your textures?
