So this is an odd one.
Using the shaders mod you are capable of creating a plethora of 3D effects using normal maps and specular maps.

The previous shaders patch is long outdated(by a matter of 7-8 minecraft versions) and frankly not too accurately done(Immensely GIMP'd) so I felt I'd like to update it.

Unfortunately generic normal mapping software doesnt correctly map the contours of the blocks due to large single colour areas of bdcraft blocks eg. stone.

Therefore mapping needs to be done manually which is a shame, and timeconsuming. So I'm making a wip thread for submitions

I found a normal palette which has defined edges to fit bdcraft's edges.

In 3 axis cartesian coodinates where the pallete represents a hemisphere. There are 12 divisions of 18 degrees on the z circumference for the angle of the plane from the centre. And 5 divisions of 30 degrees on the x/y circumference for the gradient of the plane.Show

For normal maps you should name the file {BLOCKNAME}_n.png and for specular maps {BLOCKNAME}_s.png

To test use SEUS shaders.
For normal/normal height maps you should see the result ingame as texture depth
For specular, turn the rain on and let the blocks get wet and you will see the reflections on the indented parts of the map where puddles accumulate.

Screenshot using ChromaHills which has parralax and specular maps for grass and glowstone

Other than the fact I gently toast my graphics card while using it, it looks beautiful.

"...gently toast..." That's a beautiful mental image right there :P

That being said, I can't wait to see the progress on this. It's just too bad that with over 50 mods, it's almost entirely unplayable with shaders.

Well, you at least sound like you know what you're talking about:

Have you had a look at crazybump? It's not free (pretty expensive in fact) but it's quite good. There's a 30 day trial. I made this with it: Image

I did find a way to use Nvidia's PS filter to do it with the settings really high and then manually tweaking the colours(This is how I did the gravel)
