LOL Love it!

On a somewhat different subject, AARRGGHH! Can someone with more experience with these things than me possibly explain this?

When I use the version of Sphax Witchery from right before today's update, my frame rate is fine once the area finishes rendering; about 40-50 fps. When I updated to today's version, standing in the same spot, looking at the same thing, my rate drops to about 4 fps, and this is with my render distance set to short in both versions.

The new files added in today's version are not large and there aren't a huge number of them, so what would cause such a drastic drop in fps? This happens in some other Sphax mods as well, most recently Mystcraft (which I had to drop down to the 64x version to make it playable) and Portal Guns (which I removed completely).

Does anyone know why this happens?

usually it's the maps that cause lag (at least for me), but that's bout 10 more fps that i get with sphax (i cant run it with mods)

Yeah, but in this case the only thing that changed were the Sphax textures for Witchery. I even swapped the old and new assets folders several times, restarting Minecraft each time, and the problem was consistently with today's updated version. The new folder is only about 300 KB larger than the old, so I'm stumped.

I have no idea what could cause that! I haven't noticed that issue on my end at all, and I've made sure to keep all the formats uniform as I've been doing the textures. Hmm... We definitely need an expert to look at this. :-(

Perhaps that 300KB more destroyed your computer?! :O idk - how much RAM are you using (actually using in task manager or other performance monitor) and how much is assigned? I went down to the 64x version because I enjoy the increased framerate (thanks to not having Optifine fully working with FTB) - I was getting about 80FPS stable with increases and slight decreases depending on movement/chunk loading - and I always use "FAR" distance. However, without Optifine, I'm down to about 60 or so FPS with 128x with larger dips here and there. It still runs smoothly, but, not as smooth as it had been running :( Good luck with troubleshooting it - try adding in this mod and taking out something else major, like Tinker's to see if you get the performance back. If so, it's not the mod textures but the size increase.

Just as a test I've re-converted all the textures using my process (ImageMagick if you must know) and it stripped out ~300kb.

See if it helps: https://hanfox.co.uk/other-mc/Sphax_Witchery_128x.zip

This is by no means "scientific". Picking over the actual image information would take a while.

Also GadZuqs, can you use zips and not rars? ;)

I was running with this for my JVM arguments: -Xmx3G -XX:MaxPermSize=512m. After reading LightHero's reply I checked my RAM usage, which stabilized at about 2.7 GB usage.

I bumped it up to -Xmx4G and tried again. Once everything was done rendering, my rate was at about 50 fps looking at that same spot, and I thought that did it, but after about a minute of standing perfectly still it dropped again back to about 4 fps.

Then I installed HanFox's converted textures (thanks very much for that, btw) and tried again. Same result as before, but now when it drops I can look up at the sky for a second, then look back at the water, and it will stay between 40-55 fps. Used memory was at 51% (2120 MB) of 4087 MB, and allocated was 78% (3204 MB)

It's just all over the place, and changes randomly even when not moving, but it's worse when I look at water (must be all the texture animation or something). I'm sure my primary problem is having an AMD Radeon HD 6770M (512 MB) as my video card, but on an iMac there's not much I can do about that.

As a final test, I logged into my local server, and was getting 1-2 fps. I quit, swapped out HanFox's converted textures for GadZuqs version prior to today's update, logged back in, and am now getting 22-33 fps. I am completely mystified.

I also don't want to keep bugging everyone about it, so I'll just run with the older version for now. I really appreciate everyone trying to help out though. :)

I have been working on my own version of Sphax for the Witchery mod. It is currently created at 64x as this is what I, myself, use. I am releasing the current pack as-is.

All items completed are to my artistic skill level only. If anyone would like to work on the main entities to suit (esp. the Demon), let me know.

Progress:
Blocks 100%
Entities 40%
Gui 100%
Items 100%
Edit: Changed download to a .ZIP now.

Very good, i like it. I do have one thing to say though. Sphax uses sharp edges on its blocks and items. I think you should change the metal texture for the witchery machine/furnace blocks to maybe a base texture from the default cauldron texture.
I'm back <3

@benhan86: We don't really allow for 2 versions of patches of the same mod because it just leads to confusion. I've merged your thread to the original thread as it was here before.

It's also appreciated that if you take someone else's textures you credit them and I would ask if you take any of my textures (such as the wood/planks) you actually edit them so people using Forestry aren't going to get confused.

Lastly use zips and not rars. Not everyone can open rars.

Maybe if GadZuqs likes any of what you've done they can be worked in to that patch (even though they'll need to be redrawn for 128x).

Alternatively GadZuqs can provide it as alternative download.
