Help for texturing progressive pickaxe

I try to make a patchf for a pickaxe which evolves according to the number of broken blocks with, but I have no idea how I can do that.

I'm pretty sure the game doesn't track this sort of information itself, so you'd likely need to make a mod.

I't not my mod, and this pickaxe alredy exist, It is from Paladium, and it is new.
To explain, there is jobs in the game, and for the miner job, you can craft the "God pickaxe" (this one) with the 3 pickaxe of the mod. You can improve the power of the pickaxe on breaking blocks, and the maximum power you can have on the pickaxe is your current level of miner job.
