Basically the MC1.7 downloads are only for 1.7.10, you'd need a separate download with the pack.mcmeta etc but the 1.6.4 textures for 1.7.2... not the most straight forward mod patch!
Done.

Chiefly an update due to AppleSkin splitting out the icons from AppleCore. This kind of goes to show why you shouldn't bundle 2 mods in to one patch as Spice of Life itself hasn't actually seen an update for a few months so this update to the patch may cause confusion.
v1.3.3 2016-08-14
#Added: appleskin amount icons
*Renamed: applecore -> appleskin

Does this work in 1.12.2?
For most old bdcraft skin, you can manually replace default texture by
opening mods jar file with
winrar
assets/appleskin/textures/icons.png
and
replace default texture with modified sphanxbdcraft texture. no need fiddle with coding or resource pack
since the mods jar file already updated with bdcraft texture inside the jar file.
the problem happen when updated mods add new item build which is not provided by old bdcraft texture
as long the mods not put any new item texture, i think you can use all old bdcraft texture on almost every new updated mods

It's poor advice to tell people to install textures directly in to mod jars.
If the structure of the textures hasn't changed the "incompatible" nag can be ignored just by clicking "Yes" when it asks if you still want to enable the resourcepack.
If the structure has changed making a new resourcepack is surely still easier for a user than putting things inside the mod jar anyway?

After botaxalim PM'd talking about making a separate thread for AppleSkin, I let him, not realizing basically nothing's changed texture wise. Instead of another thread I've just fixed the nag.
I guess it's sort of messy relying on this thread for some API textures that can be used standalone, but it'd require more work to strip it all the way back to when they were first split up (as it wasn't just a change for MC1.12).

It could, I guess. It'd require actually doing the book UI. Not quite sure why they decided to copy the normal book UI with some extra icons instead of just adding the icons though
