For some reason since the switch to resource packs I can't use the 512x version of sphax and I can't find any solutions. 256x work just fine. I read in an earlier topic that the problem could be not enough RAM so I allocated 16gb and it still doesn't work. If anyone knows a fix I would be very thankful.

Are you sure Java is actually using the 16GB though?

I can load up vanilla Minecraft with the 512x textures by allocating just 4GB and it only uses about 2.5GB.

I am quite sure. When I checked in-game it says 16GB is allocated. Plus it doesn't need near that much, but I gave it a try. I usually only allocate 6GB.

8GB is enough for 512x... Be sure to use Optifine or MCPatcher also.
If that still doesn't work, try patching without CTM

I didn't get an error, but instead Minecraft by default reverted to the default texture pack when I tried switching to 512x.

I agree with Cocoa_Pod. the same thing happens to me I can use 128x128 texture pack but cant use 256x256. If i click it it takes me back to the default texture pack. I have 3gb's allocated to my minecraft. Is that enought?

Minecraft is heavier than before... And not that well optimized. That's why Optifine and McPatcher are still useful ;)
